Job Summary
The English Teacher – Middle School (Lower Secondary Level) is responsible for delivering high-quality English language and literature instruction aligned with the Cambridge Lower Secondary English Curriculum. The role focuses on developing students’ reading, writing, speaking, listening, and analytical skills while fostering confidence, creativity, and academic rigor.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning
- Plan and deliver engaging English lessons aligned with the Cambridge Lower Secondary English framework.
- Develop students’ reading comprehension, extended writing, grammar, vocabulary, speaking, and listening skills.
- Introduce learners to fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and media texts.
- Promote analytical thinking, textual interpretation, and structured written responses.
- Encourage effective oral communication through discussions, presentations, debates, and drama.
- Use differentiated instruction to address diverse learning needs.
- Integrate inquiry-based and interdisciplinary learning approaches.
- Maintain a positive, structured, and disciplined classroom environment.
Assessment & Academic Monitoring
- Design and implement formative and summative assessments aligned with Cambridge assessment objectives.
- Prepare students progressively for Cambridge Lower Secondary Checkpoint (English), where applicable.
- Maintain accurate assessment records, data, and student portfolios.
- Provide timely, specific, and constructive feedback to support student progress.
- Prepare academic reports and participate in Parent–Teacher Meetings (PTMs).
Student Support & Well-being
- Identify learning gaps and provide targeted academic support or enrichment.
- Support students’ confidence, language fluency, and independence.
- Promote positive behavior, responsibility, and learner attributes.
- Ensure strict adherence to child safeguarding and well-being policies.
Professional Responsibilities
- Participate in curriculum planning, moderation, and departmental meetings.
- Contribute to interdisciplinary units, assemblies, publications, and school events.
- Support English-related activities such as debates, writing competitions, and drama.
- Engage in continuous professional development related to Cambridge English pedagogy.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues, coordinators, and school leadership.
- Adhere to school policies, professional standards, and the code of conduct.
Required Qualifications & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
• Cambridge-trained and minimum 2–3 years of experience teaching English within the Cambridge or IB Middle School / Lower Secondary framework.
• Experience in an international or English-medium school preferred.
