Roles and responsibilities of this job

The Grade In-Charge is responsible for the academic, behavioural, administrative, and pastoral coordination of a specific grade level, ensuring that teaching, learning, and student development meet the standards of Millsberry School, Cambridge international practices, and the RICER values framework.

Key Responsibilities

1. Academic Leadership

The Grade In-Charge shall:

  • Monitor effective implementation of the curriculum in all classes of the grade.
  • Ensure lesson plans and syllabus coverage are completed on time.
  • Track student learning progress and academic performance.
  • Identify slow learners and high achievers and coordinate support programs.
  • Ensure homework, classwork, projects, and assessments are properly conducted.
  • Maintain quality of teaching and classroom instruction.

2. Teacher Supervision and Support

The Grade In-Charge will:

  • Monitor teacher attendance and punctuality.
  • Ensure teachers conduct classes according to the timetable.
  • Observe classroom teaching and report improvement areas to HOD/Principal.
  • Provide guidance and support to teachers for effective classroom management.
  • Ensure teachers follow school teaching standards and policies.

3. Student Discipline and Behaviour

The Grade In-Charge shall:

  • Ensure students follow school discipline rules and RICER values.
  • Monitor student behaviour inside:
    • classrooms
    • corridors
    • playground
    • school premises
  • Address behavioural issues and report serious cases to the Discipline Unit or school leadership.
  • Promote positive behaviour and character development.

4. Student Academic Monitoring

The Grade In-Charge will:

  • Monitor daily attendance of students.
  • Track student academic weaknesses.
  • Coordinate remedial support and improvement plans.
  • Ensure students complete:
    • classwork
    • homework
    • projects
    • activities 

5. Parent Communication

The Grade In-Charge shall:

  • Communicate with parents regarding:
    • academic progress
    • behavioural issues
    • student injuries or emergencies
    • extra classes or activities
  • Participate in Parent–Teacher Meetings and Open House programs.

6. Activity and Event Coordination

The Grade In-Charge will coordinate grade participation in:

  • Open House programs
  • Annual Day
  • Sports Day
  • CCA and ECA activities
  • Field trips
  • School exhibitions

7. Safety and Student Welfare

The Grade In-Charge shall:

  • Ensure student safety and wellbeing during school hours.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and inform parents when necessary.
  • Coordinate with the school medical unit and administration when required.

8. Classroom and Environment Monitoring

The Grade In-Charge will ensure:

  • Students wear proper school uniform.
  • Classrooms remain clean and organized.
  • Students maintain proper personal hygiene and discipline.
  • Learning materials and school property are properly maintained.

9. Examination and Assessment Support

The Grade In-Charge will:

  • Assist the Exam Cell in conducting tests and examinations.
  • Ensure proper evaluation and recording of student results.
  • Monitor the preparation of report cards and progress reports.

10. Documentation and Reporting

The Grade In-Charge shall:

  • Maintain daily records of grade activities.
  • Submit daily or weekly reports to school leadership.
  • Record student progress, behaviour issues, and improvement actions.

11. Administrative Responsibilities

The Grade In-Charge shall:

  • Remain present during full school operation hours.
  • Respond to daily operational issues within the grade.

Support the administration in smooth functioning of school programs.
